In our last biology class we took notes of some topics the teacher talked about in class. Here are my notes:
- Moths:
- The moths turned from being pale to being black or dark since they need to camouflage, that’s why at first they were whitish and then, due to pollution, (because of industrial revolution) their environment turned darker leading to a change in their color in order to be able to camouflage and therefore survive. This is a clear example of natural selection.
- Antibiotics and bacteria:
- Bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics due to mutation and might form a breed of bacteria resistant to them.
- Sickle cell anaemia
- Anaemia has to do with red blood cells
- Red blood cells don’t reproduce and have a nucleus in order to store more oxygen.
- Sickle has to do with shape, meaning Hbs cells have a different shape than Hba cells, affecting the cellular respiration
- Haemoglobin: protein which carries the oxygen inside of red blood cells
- Heterozygous: HbsHba—> most likely to reproduce in Africa and Asia
- Homozygous:HbsHbs or HbaHba—> died from either malaria or sickle cell anaemia
